What Makes Odyssey Plus Different
Not all vinyl is the same. According to Alside, Odyssey Plus offers:
- A heavier panel: .044″ nominal thickness for more rigidity and a straighter wall.
- Four profiles: D4 and D5 Clapboard, plus D4 and D5 Dutch Lap.
- 24 colors: 13 standard and 11 architectural shades, including deeper tones.
- ChromaTrue color technology: designed for long-term color stability, especially in darker colors.
- SecureLock locking system: double staggered nail slots and a fully rolled-over nailing hem.
- Wind testing: lab tested to meet or exceed the ASTM D5206 standard for negative windload resistance.
How Vinyl Handles East Tennessee Weather
Our climate is hard on exteriors. Humid summers, pop-up thunderstorms, the occasional hailstorm, and winter nights that swing above and below freezing all take a toll.
Vinyl doesn’t rot, and it never needs painting, which matters in a valley where humidity keeps wood siding damp for days. Because the color runs through the panel, small scuffs don’t show bare wood. The heavier Odyssey Plus panel and its locking hem help it stay put in summer storm gusts.
Alside’s manufacturer’s warranty also addresses hail. Per Alside, its vinyl siding is warranted against hail damage, with homeowner’s insurance applying first and the warranty covering replacement material only. That’s worth knowing in a region where spring storms roll through every year.
Vinyl does expand and contract with temperature. That’s why installation matters so much: panels have to be nailed loosely enough to move, or you’ll see waves and buckling by the second summer.
Who Vinyl Siding Is Best For
- Homeowners who want the lowest maintenance for the investment.
- Families planning to stay put and enjoy a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty.
- Rental and investment property owners who want a durable, easy-to-clean exterior.
- Anyone replacing old, peeling wood or tired builder-grade vinyl.
Honest Pros and Cons
Pros
- Typically the most budget-friendly of the siding products we install.
- No painting, ever. Cleaning is usually a garden hose and a soft brush.
- Won’t rot or attract wood-boring insects.
- Faster installation than fiber cement, so less disruption at home.
Cons
- A hard impact (a mower-thrown rock, a big hailstone) can crack a panel.
- Panels can warp from intense reflected heat, such as from a neighbor’s low-E window or a grill set too close.
- It won’t fool anyone into thinking it’s painted wood the way fiber cement can.
What Vinyl Siding Costs
We don’t post prices because every house is different. Cost depends on the size of your home, how many stories, how much trim and soffit work is involved, the condition of the wall underneath, and whether you add insulation. In general, vinyl sits at the most affordable end of our product lineup. Your free estimate will be itemized so you can see exactly what you’re paying for.
Vinyl vs. Other Options
Vinyl vs. James Hardie: James Hardie fiber cement is heavier, thicker, and noncombustible, with a more authentic wood look. It costs more and takes longer to install, and it will eventually need repainting unless you choose a factory finish. Vinyl wins on upfront cost and upkeep.
Vinyl vs. Everlast: Everlast composite siding is a much thicker board that resists dents and impacts better. It’s a step up in price. If impact resistance matters most, ask us to show you both side by side.

The Donny’s and James did a phenomenal job replacing the vinyl siding on my 1920’s house. They were professional, quick, and all-around great men. … 10/10 would recommend to family and friends.
Shane did great work on gutters. So good I signed up to get the gables done. This vinyl clad aluminum siding is beautiful. I won’t need to paint again.
FAQ
Vinyl siding FAQ
Still have a question? Call us — a real person answers.
What warranty comes with Alside Odyssey Plus?
Alside offers a lifetime limited manufacturer’s warranty to the original owner for as long as they own and live in the home. It transfers once to the next owner as a 50-year prorated limited warranty. We’ll give you the full warranty document with your estimate.
Will dark vinyl colors fade in the Tennessee sun?
Alside says its ChromaTrue technology is designed for long-term color stability in darker colors, and its warranty includes fade protection for the original owner. Some gradual weathering is normal for any exterior.
Can you install vinyl over my old siding?
Sometimes it’s possible, but we usually recommend removing it. Tear-off lets us find rot and moisture problems before they’re sealed in for another 20 years.
Do you install vinyl outside Knoxville?
Yes. We serve homeowners across East Tennessee, including Maryville and Lenoir City. See all of our siding services in Knoxville.
