Siding Problems We Repair

Storm, Hail, and Wind Damage

East Tennessee summers bring fast-moving thunderstorms, and spring can bring hail. Wind can lift and tear panels loose, and hail can crack vinyl or chip and dent other materials. We replace damaged pieces, re-secure loose sections, and check the weather barrier underneath for tears.

Rot and Soft Spots

Wood siding and trim rot fast in our humid climate, especially near gutters, decks, and the bottom courses close to the ground. We cut out rotted material, check the sheathing and framing behind it, and replace what’s damaged. Where it makes sense, we can replace rotted wood trim with a low-maintenance material.

Woodpecker Damage

In wooded neighborhoods, woodpeckers can drill into wood, cedar, and some composite siding. Holes let in water and insects. We patch or replace damaged boards and can talk with you about materials that are less attractive to birds.

Moisture and Water Intrusion

Stains on interior walls, peeling paint, mold near windows, or siding that bulges are signs water is getting where it shouldn’t. Common causes include missing flashing, failed caulk, gutters overflowing onto walls, and siding installed too close to roofs or the ground. We find the source, not just the symptom.

Loose, Cracked, or Warped Panels

Vinyl that was nailed too tight can buckle in summer heat. Panels can crack from impacts or cold. We can usually remove and reinstall or replace sections without disturbing the rest of the wall.

Matching Discontinued Siding

One of the hardest parts of siding repair is matching what’s already on your house. Colors fade, and manufacturers change or discontinue profiles over the years. Here’s how we approach it:

  • We identify the material, profile, and exposure of your existing siding.
  • We look for a current product with a matching or very close profile and color.
  • When an exact match isn’t available, we may borrow panels from a less visible wall (like behind a deck) for the front of the house and use new material in the hidden spot.
  • If a match truly isn’t possible, we’ll tell you honestly and walk you through options, including re-siding one full elevation so the difference isn’t noticeable.

Help With Insurance Claim Documentation

If your siding was damaged in a storm, your homeowner’s insurance may cover some or all of the repair, depending on your policy. We can help you with the paperwork side of things:

  • A detailed inspection of the damage.
  • Dated photos of affected areas.
  • A written, itemized repair estimate you can share with your adjuster.
  • Meeting your adjuster on site if you’d like us there.

To be clear, the claim is between you and your insurance company. We don’t file or negotiate claims on your behalf, and we can’t waive or cover your deductible. Your deductible and coverage are set by your policy. Some manufacturers’ warranties, including Alside’s and Everlast’s, also address hail damage, generally after homeowner’s insurance, so it’s worth checking what’s on your house.

Repair or Replace?

Repair usually makes sense when damage is limited to one area, the rest of the siding is in good shape, and a reasonable match is available. Replacement may be the better value when:

  • Damage is spread across several sides of the house.
  • The siding is old, brittle, or faded beyond matching.
  • There’s widespread rot or moisture damage behind it.
  • You’re facing repeated repairs year after year.

If replacement is the smarter move, we install Alside Odyssey Plus vinyl, James Hardie fiber cement, Everlast composite, and Tando shake and stone. We’ll give you an honest recommendation either way.

What Siding Repair Costs

Repair costs depend on the type of siding, how much area is damaged, whether there’s hidden rot or moisture behind it, how easy it is to match, and how high the work is off the ground. Small repairs can be fairly modest; repairs involving sheathing or framing cost more. We give free estimates with no pressure.

FAQ

Siding repair FAQ

Still have a question? Call us — a real person answers.

Can you repair just a few panels?

Yes. Many repairs involve replacing a handful of panels or boards. The main challenge is matching, which we’ll discuss during your estimate.

Will you handle my insurance claim?

No. You’ll work directly with your insurance company. We can provide inspection photos and an itemized estimate, and meet your adjuster if you’d like.

How fast should I fix storm damage?

As soon as you reasonably can. Open gaps let water into the wall, which can lead to rot and mold. Your insurer may also have time limits for reporting damage.

Do you repair siding outside Knoxville?

Yes, throughout East Tennessee, including Maryville and Oak Ridge. See all of our siding services in Knoxville.
