The Tando Products We Install

Beach House Shake

Tando’s composite cedar shingle. According to Tando, every individual shingle is unique, with the subtle nuances of natural cedar. It comes in two collections:

  • Classic Collection: 5″ re-squared and rebutted shingles in Atlantica, Pacifica, Sandcastle, and Hatteras.
  • Rustic Collection: a staggered-edge look in Pacifica, Sandcastle, Ballard Brown, and Galveston Gray.

Tando says Beach House Shake installs more than five times faster than natural cedar shingles, uses 80% fewer fasteners for the same coverage, and features a KAPGUARD with KYNAR coating for long-lasting color protection.

TandoStone

Composite stone panels that install with the same tools and fasteners as siding. No mortar, no adhesive, and no specialty masonry crew. Styles include:

  • Stacked Stone: a contemporary, sharp-edged look with minimal grout lines.
  • Creek Ledgestone: a rough, dimensional surface with generous grout lines.
  • ProBrick: composite brick in classic red or brown tones.

Tando describes TandoStone as lightweight and moisture-impervious, and it offers an aLL-Pro Corner system and an Architectural Sill with an integrated nailing flange for clean transitions.

The Manufacturer’s Warranty

Tando lists a 50-Year Performance Plus Limited Warranty covering TandoStone and Beach House Shake, along with a 20-Year Rock Solid Limited Warranty for TandoStone and a 20-Year Beautiful Freedom Limited Warranty for Beach House Shake. We’ll provide the current warranty documents with your estimate so you can review exactly what’s covered.

Why Tando Makes Sense in East Tennessee

Humidity: Real cedar shakes soak up moisture, then cup and split. Tando’s polypropylene-based panels don’t absorb water the way wood does, so they hold their shape through muggy summers.

Freeze-thaw: Traditional stone veneer can crack and shed mortar when water gets in and freezes. TandoStone has no mortar joints to fail.

Woodpeckers and insects: Cedar is a frequent target for woodpeckers and wood-boring insects in wooded neighborhoods. A composite panel isn’t wood, which removes much of the appeal.

Storms: Tando products are evaluated under ICC code reports, and Tando’s technical documents list wind-load data for each product. We’ll go over the installation details that apply to your home.

Who Tando Is Best For

  • Homeowners who want cedar shake or stone curb appeal without the upkeep.
  • Gables, dormers, porches, and foundation wainscots that need a design accent.
  • Craftsman, cottage, coastal, and mountain-style homes.
  • Anyone pairing materials, such as shake gables over vinyl or Hardie lap siding.

Honest Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Convincing cedar and stone looks without staining, sealing, or mortar.
  • Lightweight panels, so no extra structural support for stone.
  • Faster installation than real cedar or masonry.
  • Long manufacturer’s warranty.

Cons

  • Costs more per square foot than standard lap siding.
  • Fewer color choices than vinyl or fiber cement.
  • Up close, some people can still tell it isn’t real stone.

What Tando Siding Costs

Tando is a premium product, but because most homeowners use it as an accent, the total cost is often more manageable than they expect. Your price depends on how much area you cover, which product you choose, trim and corner details, and any wall repair needed. We provide free, itemized estimates.

Tando vs. Other Options

Tando shake vs. HardieShingle: James Hardie’s HardieShingle gives a painted shingle look and is noncombustible. Tando’s Beach House Shake is lighter and has a more natural, stained cedar appearance.

Tando with vinyl: Many of our customers pair Tando accents with Alside Odyssey Plus vinyl on the main walls. It’s a cost-effective way to get a custom look.

Our Installation Process

  • Design consult: We help you decide where shake or stone will have the most impact.
  • Preparation: Old materials come off, and we repair any damaged sheathing.
  • Weather barrier and flashing: Critical at sills, corners, and roof lines.
  • Installation: Panels go up per Tando’s installation guide, using the proper starter, corner, and sill components.
  • Finish and walkthrough: Trim, cleanup, and a final review with you.

Tennessee contractor license: #2685.

FAQ

Tando FAQ

Still have a question? Call us — a real person answers.

Can TandoStone go on an existing home?

Yes. Because it’s lightweight and needs no mortar, TandoStone works well for adding a stone wainscot or accent wall to an existing house.

Will Beach House Shake fade?

Tando says its KAPGUARD with KYNAR coating is designed for lasting color protection. Some gradual weathering is normal for any exterior product.

Can I use Tando on the whole house?

You can, but most homeowners use it on gables, porches, and foundations to balance cost and curb appeal.
