The James Hardie Products We Install
HardiePlank Lap Siding
The classic horizontal board, and the most popular choice for full-house siding. It comes in smooth and wood-grain textures in a range of exposures.
HardieShingle Siding
A shingle-style product that’s ideal for gables, dormers, and accent walls. It gives you the charm of cedar shakes without the upkeep.
HardieTrim Boards
Fiber cement trim for corners, windows, doors, and fascia. Using HardieTrim instead of wood means the trim won’t rot out years before the siding does, which is one of the most common problems we fix in older homes.
ColorPlus Technology
Hardie products can be ordered with a factory-applied ColorPlus finish. James Hardie describes it as a baked-on color process applied in a controlled environment, with multiple coats and heating cycles for consistency and fade resistance. You can also order primed boards and have them painted on site in any color you like.
What the Manufacturer’s Warranty Covers
According to James Hardie:
- Hardie siding, trim boards, and soffit are backed by a transferable 30-year, non-prorated substrate limited warranty.
- ColorPlus finishes carry a 15-year limited warranty that covers paint and labor against peeling, cracking, and chipping.
These are manufacturer’s warranties. Ask us for the current warranty documents at your estimate so you can read the fine print.
Why Fiber Cement Works in East Tennessee
Humidity and rot: Knoxville summers are muggy, and wood siding stays damp. James Hardie says its fiber cement resists water, weather, and pests, so it isn’t a food source for rot the way wood is.
Termites and pests: Termites are a real concern here. Fiber cement isn’t wood, which takes away one of their favorite targets on your exterior walls.
Fire: James Hardie states its fiber cement products are noncombustible and/or carry a Class A fire rating when tested to ASTM E84. That fire resistance applies to the board itself, not the paint on it.
Storms and temperature swings: Fiber cement is heavy and rigid. It doesn’t sag or wave in summer heat like thin vinyl, and it stays dimensionally stable through our freeze-thaw winters when it’s installed and caulked correctly.
Who James Hardie Is Best For
- Homeowners who want an authentic painted-wood look.
- Historic, craftsman, and farmhouse-style homes where trim detail matters.
- Anyone who wants a transferable substrate warranty that adds selling value.
- Homes in wooded areas where fire resistance is a priority.

What James Hardie Siding Costs
Fiber cement typically lands in the mid-to-upper range of what we install: more than vinyl, often comparable to premium composites. Your price depends on square footage, stories, the amount of HardieTrim and HardieShingle detail, primed versus ColorPlus, and the condition of the walls underneath. We provide free, itemized estimates.
How Hardie Compares
Hardie vs. vinyl: Alside Odyssey Plus vinyl costs less, never needs paint, and installs faster. Hardie looks more like wood, resists fire, and feels more solid.
Hardie vs. Everlast: Everlast composite siding is lighter, never needs paint or caulk, and has a lifetime manufacturer’s warranty for the original owner. Hardie offers more profile and trim options and a painted look.

Matt who did the estimate was spot on and very knowledgeable. The siding crew led by Marvin were amazing. Definitely recommend America Home for siding.
