Siding made for Bristol homes
Bristol is two cities sharing one main street. State Street is the dividing line between Bristol, Tennessee, and Bristol, Virginia. This page is about the Tennessee side, in Sullivan County. If your home is in Bristol, Virginia, give us a call and ask before you book a visit; we don’t want to promise something we can’t schedule.
American Home is a Knoxville siding company, founded in 1997 and still locally owned. Bristol is about two hours from our shop, so we don’t pretend to be your neighborhood contractor. We are a contractor who plans the trip, does the estimate properly, and brings a full crew when it’s time to work.

Built for a Snowier Corner of Tennessee
Bristol sits at about 1,677 feet, and its winters show it. Normal winter snowfall here is around 13 inches, significantly more than most of Tennessee gets. The area’s record low is 21 below zero, set in January 1985. Yearly precipitation, about 41 inches, is actually lower than much of East Tennessee, so the challenge here is cold more than constant rain.
Cold changes how siding behaves and how it should be installed:
- Snow against the wall. Drifts and plowed snow sit against the lowest courses for days. Good clearance above grade and a sound starter strip keep meltwater out.
- Ice at the roofline. Where ice builds at the eaves, water can back up and run down behind siding. Flashing and drip edge need attention before panels go up.
- Contraction. Siding shrinks in deep cold. Installers have to leave the right room at joints and fasten so panels can move, or you’ll see gaps and buckles within a season or two.
Our installers follow each manufacturer’s instructions for these details. It’s not glamorous work, but it’s what decides whether a siding job looks good for years or only for a summer.
Fairmount and Holston Avenue
Bristol, Tennessee, has three historic districts listed on the National Register: the Bristol Commercial Historic District downtown, the Fairmount Neighborhood Historic District (listed in 2010) and the Holston Avenue Neighborhood Historic District (listed in 2012). The city’s Historic Preservation Committee even gives awards for sensitive renovations and repairs in those districts.
If you live in Fairmount or along Holston Avenue, it’s worth contacting the city’s Community Development and Planning office before you choose a product, so you know whether any review applies. On older homes, we often start by asking whether existing siding can be repaired instead of replaced. When replacement makes sense, we’ll show you profiles that keep the house’s proportions intact.
Lake Homes on South Holston
South Holston Lake, a 7,580-acre TVA reservoir on the South Fork Holston River, sits near Bristol and crosses into Virginia. Lake houses deal with a little bit of everything: sun on the water side, shade and damp on the hill side, and wind across open water.
For homes like these, two products we often recommend comparing:
- Everlast composite siding for a wood-look lap board that doesn’t need painting and is made to stand up to moisture.
- Tando shake and stone for a lodge-style accent on gables, foundations or a lakeside porch.
If you prefer the simplest upkeep at a lower cost, Alside Odyssey Plus vinyl is also on our list, and we’ll price options side by side.
Our Process for Bristol Projects
Step one is a free, no-pressure estimate visit. We measure, check the walls for damage and talk about what you want. Step two is a written proposal with the product, scope, price and an expected number of working days. Step three, once you sign, is a scheduled start with materials ordered in advance so the crew can work straight through.
